I don't have the answers yet, but I have learned enough to be dangerous, and ask better questions..

The following batch of stupid lyrics are solid reasons to finally get it that rock stars are mostly overpaid cuties that know how to shake their asses on stage, and have little talent anywhere else....

1. Red Hot Chilli Peppers: California: Apparently Anthony Kleidis wrote this as a tribute to a bankrobbing girl named Dani California who was gunned down in Mississippi. He realized that the reason he was so stricken with her story is that he is attracted to this type of woman - she's all his girlfriends.

Well, ok, but could you have written some more intelligible lyrics in memoriam?

Here are the stupid lyrics:

    She's my priestess I'm her priest

2. Madonna: New York. She might be good at defecating on religious symbols and proclaiming herself a controversial artist of merit as a result, but a good poet she ain't.

I don't like cities, but I like New York
Other places make me feel like a dork
Los Angeles is for people who sleep
Paris and London, baby you can keep
(repeat a nauseating number of times)
If you don't like my attitude, then you can F-off
Just go to Texas, isn't that where they golf?
New York is not for little pussies who scream
If you can't stand the heat, then get off my street

Um, gee, a dork? How long did you stand there with your pencil trying to find something to rhyme with New York? I hope you didn't get a hernia from having to think. That was some, er, cool 5th grade girl stuff you came up with there....

3. Blinded by the Light, Manfred Mann. I think this song 'might' be about drugs. But isn't that what everybody says when presented with a set of impossibly incoherent lyrics? Er, must be about drugs....

Er, what's a deuce? I know, a deuce coupe. Ya' think? Maybe this IS about drugs...like the drugs the people were on when they wrote it....

4. Paris Hilton, the Stars are Blind. Well, at least the American populace and entertainment industry is for thinking this idiot has enough talent to be anything in life other than a....spolied heiress.

Some people never get beyond their stupid pride
But you can see the real me inside
And I'm satisfied, oh no, ohh

You can see the 'real me' inside? You mean the empty, vapid Paris that we all know is underneath the Dolce and Gabana? There's a real her in there somewhere??? Oh gosh, this is about to get deep....I think I feel water on my ankles...

5. Cornflake Girl, Tori Amos. I actually like Tori Amos. A lot. A whole lot. But this song has always had me scratching my head.

Peel out the watchword, just peel out the watchword.
Never was cornflake girl- thought that was a good solution.
Rabbit... where'd you put the keys girl?

So, what's the watchword? We never find out. And who the hell is Rabbit???? And why does she do something with the keys? Sigh, we never find out. Another example of how elliptical obtuse lyrics end up like Derrida's philosophy - utterly incomprehensible, and thus of little interest.
